CATEGORY B1.1
(Aeroplane Turbine)
Category B1.1 is a specialized aircraft maintenance engineering certification focused on turbine-powered airplanes. Individuals holding this certification are qualified to maintain, repair, overhaul, and troubleshoot various aircraft systems, including engines, structure, hydraulics, flight controls, and landing gear.
Category B2 is a field specializing in aircraft instrument, radio, navigation, and electrical systems. Students in this field can earn an Aircraft Maintenance Engineering License (Category B2) by passing the DGCA’s Basic Knowledge Module Examinations and fulfilling the maintenance experience requirements outlined in Civil Aviation Requirement-66.
Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) is a specialised aviation program focused on the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting and certification of aircraft and their systems. AMEs play a vital role in ensuring aircraft remain safe and airworthy.
AME offers career opportunities across airlines, aircraft MRO, component MRO, Non-Schedule operators, aircraft manufacturers, aircraft component manufactures, Flying Training Organization, CAR 147 (Basic) AME training institutes, Technical Writers companies, aircraft leasing organizations. Career progression depends on a candidate's training, experience, various aviation certification, aircraft type qualifications etc.
Candidates should have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognised board or an equivalent qualification (Diploma in Aeronautics /Mechanical/ Electricals/Electronics stream approved by state Technical Board).
B1.1 covers turbine-powered aeroplanes. Professionals in this category can pursue opportunities in airlines, MRO organisations, aircraft operators and other approved aviation maintenance organisations working with applicable turbine aeroplanes.
B1.2 covers piston-engine aeroplane. Career opportunities may include general aviation operators, aircraft maintenance organisations, flying training organisations and other organisations operating applicable piston-engine aeroplanes, subject to the required approvals and qualifications.
B1.3 covers turbine-powered helicopters. Professionals can pursue opportunities with helicopter operators, MRO organisations, aviation companies and other approved maintenance organisations operating applicable turbine helicopters.
B2 is the Avionics category, covering aircraft electrical, electronic, communication, navigation and instrument systems. B2 professionals can pursue opportunities with airlines, MROs, aircraft operators and other approved aviation maintenance organizations.
The duration depends on the approved training program and its structure. DGCA-approved basic training programs are structured according to the applicable CAR-147 (Basic) requirements. Generally, is of 24 months.
